Denver, CO – March 26, 2012 – The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is often misconceived as somewhat of a complaint warehouse, and simply the place to call when you want to “expose” a company’s poor behavior. While dispute resolution is one of the BBB’s free services to the public, providing information to prevent disputes is the service the BBB hopes consumers will always use first.
In 2011, it appears consumers are doing just that. The BBB Serving Denver/Boulder saw a significant decrease in complaints, while simultaneously saw inquiries on businesses and charities climb. Complaints to the BBB fell 21.7 percent while inquiries increased by 22 percent. Never in the BBB’s tracked history, have complaints decreased so significantly.
“This is fantastic news. The more consumers check out organizations they’re interested in, the more they are able to trust them and avoid getting into a dispute,” said Dale Mingilton, president and CEO of the BBB Serving Denver/Boulder. “The BBB’s vision is a marketplace where buyers and sellers can trust each other – and the latest statics show this vision is becoming a reality.”
These trends are also occurring nationwide. Overall inquiries to BBBs across the country and Canada increased 18 percent in 2011, hitting the highest rate ever in the BBB’s 100-year history. Complaints to all BBBs also saw an overall decrease from 2010 to 2011.
